Integrated Report 2019 | PGE Capital Group

Goal no. 9. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

Management of combustion by-products (UPS) in the companies of the PGE Capital Group:

PGE strives to minimize the waste generated, as well as to reuse the already generated waste.

The production of electricity and heat from fossil fuels produces significant amounts of by-substances that are produced in the waste gas cleaning processes. These substances can be reused for other purposes. Research and experience have confirmed that combustion by-products (UPS) are a valuable material that can replace natural raw materials used in industry, including in the construction sector. UPS have the desired market properties. Their use does not adversely affect the environment, life and health of people, which was confirmed by the studies carried out for the registration of substances in accordance with the REACH system.

PV laboratory in Siedlce

PGE Energia Odnawialna has built a photovoltaic laboratory on the premises of Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów i Kanalizacji in Siedlce.

The purpose of the investment is to compare various PV technologies and select the most advantageous ones. Research covers, among others optimal angle of inclination of panels in relation to the sun, battery sets, microinverters and optimizers. The devices include, among others polycrystalline, monocrystalline and thin-film panels. The laboratory has been equipped with a monitoring, data collection, analysis, reporting and work control system. Its capacity is 100 kW (working time approx. 1000 hours), which will translate into the production of approx. 100 MWh, which is enough to meet the electricity demand of about 40 households. The research program and regular reporting have just started.
